Baseball legend, Lefty O’Doul
was always looking for ways to capture exotic flavors from his travels around the world and bring them back to San Francisco to share with his friends and patrons. While on a visit to South America, he met with farmers and growers who introduced him to the sweet taste of the Agave plant. Agave nectar had the perfect mild and pleasant flavor to replace the highly processed sugar and artificial sweeteners used in many recipes. He brought this special flavor home to his famous restaurant on Union Square in San Francisco where his bartenders still use it in many of their delicious cocktails.
